Week 1

My response to the week 1 prompt is that I have had some experience with Web 2.0 technology, I created a now dead blog for another class as well as have a second life avatar and used to have an account at second life that began in yet another class(for a different program area). I have a multi page IGoogle area, with gadgets and news links that I peruse and use.

I do consider myself a participant in Web 2.0 realm, but not a creator or producer of new technology, but at least an active participant. I know that participation is an ongoing process of learning and using technologies as they appear is sometimes daunting as they come and go with alarming frequency.

In Ch. 1 of Shirky's book, the reference to Digg struck me as particularly relevant in that the appearance of the article regarding the cell phone (Sidekick) and publicizing of the related story emphasized how many people had access to the story and how the story mushroomed into several movements that involved a moral outrage larger than a lost cellphone.

From this class I hope to develop some new skills in regard to the technologies involved in Web 2.0 participation and also a larger appreciation for the collective power of Web 2.0

I am so excited. I have followers. Well they kind of have to follow me, it's an assignment after all, But still kind of fun.

In the beginning of Blog

Just beginning a blog is adventurous. The last blog I attempted died of malnutrition.
